Too Late for the Māui Dolphins? is a university project, made to showcase information in regards to the Māui Dolphins and their current situation as critically endangered animals. It is a series of 6 infographics/ posters that work both individually or as a sequence to show the condition of these dolphins and encourage people to help them.
I used colour palettes as a way to indicate the ongoing and declining condition of the Māui Dolphin, as well as a way to further visualise the topic.
I decided to use the black, white and grey colours of the dolphin, and added a pop of colour with blue to represent the ocean. I emphasised this idea of the ocean by creating a horizon line with that colour, as well as adding small details like the wave pattern.
As my first poster consisted of basic information about the dolphin, I kept the colours bright and playful, showing the life of these dolphins.
As I began talking about threats I decided to darken the ‘ocean’ colour, making it darker as the series of posters continued and showed their declining condition. I also decided to remove the dolphins from the posters as they went along, with the first poster having multiple, the second poster having a few, and the third poster having none, showing that if not protected these threats will eventually kill all of them.
Through the use of the green colour I was able to separate information well, allowing the main focus of the poster to be one important piece of data. I used white space to portray the rest of the information that required more text, rather than visuals.
